GE has been involved in numerous lawsuits and
investigations by many organizations.

I personally have one friend who joined ( this was about 10
yrs ago, he joined the office NOT the website) - paid thousands of dollars and got nothing

Is that a review or an ad for them??????

I joined an office last year and when I got I changed my mind about joining. When I call to cancel they told me that I still had to pay in full the account. When I did not pay they sent it to collection and it went on my credit report. I would reccomend to anyone to stay away from this outfit. It cost me about 2,000.00 dollars and bad credit rateing.

This is the worse dating service (and I use the term loosely because I got NO service of any kind) I have been involved with on the net. I was charged $4,200.00. I have not had a date yet. A man came to meet me. That was it in the 2 years I have been a member. I happen to be a good looking woman too. DON'T let them do this to you.

I agree!!! This is by far the Worst Dating Service! I have been ripped off myself and I get sick to my stomach everytime I think about it. Unfortunately I'm out a lot of money - just like all of you. Has anyone been successful with this group?

I am a member of Great Expectations in St Louis. Although they are a little expensive the personal service and the screening are worth it.

This service is a scam. I am a former member of the Denver office. I was told all sorts of lies to get me to sign up. After signing up you are just dumped into the very small dating pool they have and thats it. No help, no customer service, and for me, after one year, only one date. That's a $3,000 date, you must be kidding me. I currently have hired an attorney and I am sueing this office under the Colorado Consumer Protection Act. For all other victims in Colorado, these bait and switch tactics are illegal here and you can sue.

I think your site is very interesting and full of information.
I work for a totally free dating site and would like to know how to get it reviewed.
Thanks

Great Expectations Dating Service is a BIG scam and the people who work there could not work in any other job. They are drones who charge your account even when not authorized.  STAY  AWAY  FROM  THIS DATING SERVICE AND TELL EVERYONE YOU KNOW TO DO THE SAME.

There were fewer people to select from, but I found the profiles were more honest and true than match or other services.  The members were of a better caliber, and I am happy to say, after having been a member for a while, I was able to meet, date, and marry the man of my dreams!

MEMBER FOR 5 MONTHS.  BAD MATCHES, I WAS HUSTLED BY A PROSTITUTE.  RECOMMENDED MATCHES TWO THOUSAND MILES AWAY.  RECOMMENDED MATCHES TOTALY AT ODDS WITH MY DESIRES.  FILLED WITH UGLY, FAT GREEDY WOMEN.  I CANCELED WITH ONE AND ONE HALF PAID FOR TIME LEFT ON CONTRACT.  NOT A GOOD SITE.  I COULD SAY A LOT MORE, BUT STAY AWAY.

I was a member of G.E. back in the late 90's.  I would have to concur with their detractors.  It was a terrible waste of 2k.  I hope in the time that has passed they have greatly improved.  For the new single and those who have been single for awhile, I recommend avoiding G.E.  I have found the less I spend on a dating service, the better the response.

Great Expectations. Extremely disappointing. With the hard sell up front they make it sound so intriuging, then, after they get your $6000.00 you find out the truth. 60 new members per month turns into 3-4 that fall into your parameters; can you make the time for at least one date per week? I have not had a date yet. Make sure you ask for a sample search of the database for matches that meet your parameters, BEFORE you hand them your credit card.

Great Expectations of Upland, California ripped me off. Their phone lines were busy everytime I tried to get help. Would try them at different times with no success. Drove by their location and security guard sad they split in the night. They never contacted the customers. Don't ever use this site and spread the word fast. After giving them my money I learned online too late of their poor reputation but it was too late. pjgardner727@yahoo.com 8/15/07

Great Expectations misrepresent how they intend to conduct business when you first walk in. You are asked to complete a questionnaire and acknowledge by signature that when they consider your application they will run a credit/background check on you. They fail to tell you they consider this questionnaire your application. Before you ever speak with a counselor, if you signed the questionnaire, your credit is run. This is illegal. There are specific forms they are required to have you sign and in many states there is a block at the bottom of the form for an individual to request the report be sent to them. Next you are sold the program which costs around 4,500 dollars however you are not allowed to view profiles. I do not know too many people that are willing to spend this type of money without being able to "check ride" the product. When I complained about their misleading method of running my credit, which if I had wanted to become a client I would have gladly authorized, I was told in 10 years of this individual working there, I was the only one who did not join that complained about my credit being run. I find this hard to believe especially in todays era of identity theft; people are heavily engaged in their credit. Bottom line - the program is extremely pricey, there are no guarantees, you have a 28 dollar monthly due which they said offsets some of their events, and you can not even look to see if any of their current clients might match what you are looking for.

Great Expectations? More like lowered expectations. Very few evan somewhat attractive woman on this site and the few that there are have there profile frozen. This is basically no different than placing a free profile online except they charge much more and take a couple nice pics of you. On the plus side I was looking at doing other services such as It's just lunch and similar services, well here you can at least look at a pic and see if there is any physical attraction before accepting a lunch date. All in all I would say save your money and buy your self something nice because if join this servie you are just wasting money and time.
Great Expectations CAN be great, if you choose to make it so.

I was member of Great Expectations a few years ago. It was wonderful. I met my husband and two of my best girlfriends there.

Then last year I decided to start working there because I know how fun it can be. I can tell you that in the year I have been here, the ONLY people that haven't had fun and found great people to date are the ones that are closed-minded with a negative attitude who would rather complain than take advantage of the investment that they made. The members that are positive, open-minded, and actually take the time to select and respond to people have repeatedly told me it was worth much more than they spent.

I have met so many beautiful and amazing people from being a member and from working here. I am sad for that very small percentage that feels like it is safer to reject potential people and complain than to take the risk of actually finding the person they are meant to be with. My husband did not look like the picture I had in my head. And I could not have found a better person for me.

I went into the office last year and was kind of skeptical. I didn't feel like I should have to pay anything to meet someone. I was using some of the free online sites and I was getting dates from them but nothing more than a first or second date. I decided to give it a shot and schedule an appointment with Great Expectations. I was really nervous but when I walked in I was greeted with a friendly smile and conversation. I met with Lori and she was wonderful! After I met the staff I felt at ease with the situation and decided to sign up. Yes, it was more money than the online sites and more than I ever thought I would be paying for something like this but I could afford it and it looked like a great program. I started receiving responses about a week after my photo/video and profile went up. They were all great guys went on a few dates but nobody I really clicked with. Then about 6 months later David picked me and we've been having fun ever since! What I really love is not only did I meet someone great but everyone I met through the service was quality and going places. I'm so glad I met David and it wouldn't have been possible without Great Expectations. I would highly recommend this service!!
Great Expectations: LIES and UNPROFESSIONALISM!
Authored by: Anonymous on Wednesday, May 06 2009 @ 04:38 PM Eastern Daylight Time
I recently joined Great Expectations, and I don't know how to say this strongly enough: avoid them like the plague.

During my membership interview, I asked very specifically about the number of female members Great Expectations (GE) had within the age range I am interested in. I was 32 when I joined, and I said I wanted to meet women around age 24-35. This is not unreasonable! They took a long time to answer my question, instead replying with "Oh, we have new people joining every day." I finally got them to admit that they had around 125-150 women in the St. Louis area in the age range I had specified. Long story short, after I paid my $5,295 (yes, you read that correctly!) I discovered that they have NOWHERE NEAR that number of members in that age range.

I made numerous phone calls to speak with the director, but she took almost two weeks to return my phone call. When she did, she told me that I should be willing to date women up to age 40 and that I should be open to dating women who live in other parts of the country. I made it VERY CLEAR during my initial membership interview that I was interested in meeting women IN THE ST. LOUIS AREA and within an age range of 24-35. Those are my choices, and she has no right to tell me who I "should" be interested in dating. Even their receptionist took my side on this one, saying that most men aged 32 would not be looking to date 40-year-old women.

The director claims I need to "give them more time," but the rate at which they have women joining in my age range (maybe 1-2 new members each month, from what I have seen) certainly doesn't justify a $5,295 price tag! They should have been honest with me about their member numbers and allowed me to make an informed decision, but I'm sure they knew that if they told me their real member numbers, there is no way I would have paid that amount of money. No reasonable person would!

I notice one of the GE employees posted above that the only people who have bad experiences with GE are those who are negative, etc. This has nothing to do with me being positive or negative -- I'm actually a very positive person! My anger comes from the fact that they deliberately misled me to get my money. I'm a reasonable person; I didn't expect miracle results, or to somehow meet the woman of my dreams within two weeks of becoming a member. My complaint is not that I didn't meet my dream girl right away; my complaint is that GE deliberately quoted me inflated member numbers to get my money. For what it's worth, I can also say that GE is probably the most unprofessional company I have ever worked with. They seldom return phone calls, and I haven't been able to make an appointment with their director in six weeks of trying.

Sadly, at this point I am being forced to work through the Better Business Bureau and the MO State Attorney General's office to try to get my money back. I should mention that they are NOT accredited by the BBB, where they currently have a rating of "C" and 22 complaints on file against them in the last few years. (You can verify this at the BBB website.)

Two words... STAY AWAY... from Great expectations. I was almost sucked into their scam but thought wisely when i kept seeing alot of red flags. Don't believe anything they say, they are nothing more than professional crooks that are after peoples money.

GE is good for those who run the franchises to make money but bad for those who are "looking for love" using dating services. Approximately 10 years ago, a friend and I joined GE and neither of us met anyone who were compatible, just a date here and a date there. Sure, one may occasionally hear of a story of somebody meeting someone else and getting married through GE but this seldom happens. I also know that if you are a young female (18 to 20's) and very attractive (what one may call a "young hottie"), you will get "selected" by men so often that you get overwhelmed. I know this first hand because when I did GE almost a decade ago, I met other young women from GE and many of them told me this. Thus the "young hottie" may even get selected by dirty old men in their 50's whose only hope for dating younger attractive women is by getting a "mail order bride" from the Philippines, Russia, or Ukraine. This is my experience from 10 years back and I very seriously doubt if anything much has changed, just the same s*** but different people. My advice to those considering GE: DON'T DO IT AS YOU WILL REGRET IT. I hope that my comments will prevent at least one sucker from being scammed thousands of dollars by GE.

For those of you who didn't join, good for you guys! I was one of the victims of Great Expectations. They give you high promise with low results. The staff who talked to me when I visited the office kept going to another room (to talk to her manager), saying that she's trying to get approval so I can get a lower price. It is somewhat like in a car dealer. So she told me she got me a great deal, but then I can only browse and choose members in 3-4 cities near where I am. They even try to make money off the photographs (that their photographer take), charging clients by the number of photographs they post on their site. On top of the big lum sum payment we have to pay upfront, we still have to pay a monthly due to use the service.

They have very poor customer service (after you join). They claim that they have new members joining everyday but when I check the new members on their site, there are hardly that many new ones. Also when I looked at the calendar of events, there're hardly any events. They didn't even have anything for Valentine's (2010). I wanted to get a refund within the 1st month I joined when I realized how poor and little the selection was (for the claimed "elite dating service"). But they said I already approved my credit card payment. So I was pretty much stuck. They told me that they could upgrade me and give me a personal advisor. But the personal advisor is the receptionist/video person/customer service. She only emailed me twice to inform me of new members. But stopped contacting me since they hardly have that many new members joining.

Even one of the guys that I went out with (just one time) was frustrated with the promise and the reality. I also feel bad for those people who don't make that much and are sucked into this. The GE staff boasted their members earning high income and have good jobs. But many of the men are just blue collar workers who are looking to find someone but had to pay thousands of dollars for very low results (that's why I feel sorry for them). I'm wondering if there's a way we can do sth. or sue the company. With the money that I paid to join GE, I could used that to pay/join a few years of a few dating sites that has millions of members. Anyone who became a member who feel the same way? Should we take some action? I don't think they should be in business!

i totally agree with you.  i joined in march of this year and for two months, my video wasn't posted to my profile.  it was only supposed to take 1 month,  then i transferred my account to another GE city, since i moved.  the original city of me signing on has dragged their feet in sending my photos to my new site.  now, a member for 3 months, no video for 2 months and i haven't been able to have my profile active for the past month because they don't have my pictures!!  ugh.  i called and asked for a refund based on the fact that i've held up my end of the agreement and GE hasn't held up their end.  their response, we don't issue refunds!!  apparently, my happiness, which was a concern for them until they got their money is no longer a concern.  i was told their will work on correcting this immediately.  my response - it better be by next friday or they will hear from my attorney!  what else can be done???  frustrated and sick to my stomach when i think i threw away ALOT of money on nothing!
